It Starts in the Sketchbook
Ki11erpancake is the illustration and animation of Genevieve Barbee-Turner. Genevieve has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University with a concentration in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. During that time, she complimented her studies with various history and language courses—learning how and why we tell our stories. Today she tackles visual problems with a distinct style and utilizes intense research to form a deep understanding of the subject in order to tell a story without words.
While the finished products are drawn on an iPad or Wacom tablet, everything starts with pencil and ink in a sketchbook.
Drawings big & Small
There are no constraints to where a sketch can go. Starting in my 9x12 inch Moleskine I build ideas that are printed in large format for both public and private installation. This year I’ve also expanded into small animations known as digital stickers for use on mobile devices. Scroll to see more, including the tarot deck about Pittsburgh!

Window Decal (3 x 4.5 feet)
Using the Procreate app I’m able to capture my drawing process in short time-lapse videos like this one. It revealed to me how no matter where I’m drawing, the process of building an image remains generally the same. (Shape, sketch, ink, color, blend)
While most of my commercial work is digital I always start off in the sketchbook. It’s my diary and mental treehouse where anything goes and leads to new and exciting ideas.
