TWYGA: The Blog

Artist Genevieve Barbee is creating 800 portraits of individuals and their talents. She asks each person one question: "What are you good at?". She's had a lot of different responses...

Marlene is Good At High Level Organization

Frankly, what Marlene does professionally is really fascinating. She’s starting a small law firm that focuses on assisting small agriculturally based businesses who need affordable law advice. When we were talking at the party this was recorded at, she mentioned how costs can be cut when your clients don’t need wining and dining—they just need a good legal advocate. Unfortunately many people think “lawyer = big bucks” and she’s hoping to change that one client at a time.

This talent requires a lot of gumption which seems to be the key to any kind of large task organizing. I agree with her, that breaking things down into piecemeal bites is important to not getting overwhelmed. The key is knowing how to do that efficiently (which is what I struggle with personally).

I am a fan of people, businesses, and organizations that are more niche and drill down into particular tasks so it’s safe to say that I’m a fan of Marlene.

I selected a few key symbols for this portrait (produced in 90 minutes this morning—I really didn’t want to get up early). Wheat obviously behind her shoulders, a wreath of leaves above her head to denote an elevated professional standing (she passed the bar in October!), and “ex agris vita” which based on my research means, “from agriculture comes life”.
